Laco Replika: 55 Millimeters of timekeeping history
Inspired by the original 55 mm sized observation watches from the 1940s, this collection's models look as if they have been worn over several generations. The hand made "Erbstück" watch is a one of a kind. Traces of ageing give these timepieces a historic charm that usually can only be found at vintage models. Laco has developed a unique method to achieve this special look, creating a natural patina on the watches. Scrapes, scratches, discolouration and wear and tear can be reproduced to appear as they do on old originals. All components – case, dial, hands and strap – are aged individually and by hand in a labor-intensive process. This creates a particularly authentic patina, making each watch truly one of a kind. This gives the watches the appeal of an historic timepiece, making each one completely unique - as individual and distinctive as its owner!
Pforzheim, October 2026 – With the Replika 55, Laco presents an exceptionally faithful reproduction of the historic observation watch, following the original down to its authentic details. With this reissue, the German heritage brand is reviving not only a former model, but also a defining chapter in its own history. It is joined by an individually aged Erbstück edition.
Not reinterpreted, but reissued: The Replika 55 was already an established part of the Laco collection in the past. Now, after several years, it returns as a watch that embodies the identity of the brand like few others. Its inspiration is the historic observation watch of the 1940s, developed as a precise navigational instrument for aviation. The requirements governing its construction and production were strict. Laco was one of only five manufacturers capable of meeting these specifications and commissioned to produce the watches. Their clear design and uncompromising functionality laid the foundation for a large part of today’s collection and continues to define what Laco is known for: authentic pilot watches.
With a diameter of 55 millimeters, the Replika 55 deliberately defies current sizing trends. Yet its dimensions are not intended to attract attention at any cost. Instead, they follow the historic original, whose size was a functional necessity: As a navigational instrument, the watch had to allow the time to be read quickly and clearly, even under demanding conditions. The Replika 55 is therefore not a modernized pilot watch with a retro look, but an uncompromising reconstruction for collectors, connoisseurs and enthusiasts of authentic observation watches.
